The existing kitchen was small and lacked sufficient natural light. The architect’s vision was to re assert the kitchen as the centre of the family home, opening up the space between the existing kitchen and extension, and introduce high levels of natural light.
We were instructed to prepare a structural scheme for a rear and side single storey kitchen extension.
Preparing a structural scheme for the rear and side single storey kitchen extension scheme would also involved making internal alterations to the existing kitchen and adjacent utility rooms and the removal of major loadbearing walls within the kitchen.
Therefore the challenge for us was to design the structural scheme with no internal columns and create a flush ceiling throughout.
PB Structural Design worked with the architect and client to produce structural details achieving their desired architectural vision. The kitchen extension was complete and the focal point of the house was one with an abundance of natural light, which was the primary aim of the project.
