PB Structural Design was appointed to produce a structural scheme for a double storey side extension to a detached bungalow. The client wanted to transform the interior of the outdated bungalow to create a more modern family home.
The Design Process
Steel beams were designed internally within the existing kitchen area to enable loadbearing internal walls to be removed. Existing external walls were removed to the corner of the bungalow and steel beams installed to support the first floor above, creating a corner of glazed bi fold doors. The existing first floor dormer was also extended using a structural steel beam, providing a large master bedroom with views over the surrounding countryside.
The Finished Project
The bungalow was completely transformed into a spacious modern family home. The new kitchen layout provides a more practical family space and provides a connection between the house and the stunning surrounding rural countryside.
