The Objectives
This end of terrace house was in a central London location, so the client wanted to maximise every available opportunity for additional space.
To achieve this, the architect designed a large loft conversion with rear box dormer to add 2 extra bedrooms and a ground floor ‘infill’ extension to enlarge the kitchen space.
The Design Process
PB Structural Design worked with the architect to convert the existing loft space. The structural build up of the new loft floor and dormer roof were designed to be as shallow as possible to maximise the floor to ceiling height in the converted space.
Existing loadbearing walls were removed to the kitchen to create a new kitchen/diner extension at the side. The steel beams were designed to be exposed under the ceiling, enhancing the client’s desired vision for an ‘industrial look’ interior to the kitchen area.
The Finished Project
The additions at loft floor and ground floor level have maximised the space and provided a large functional family house in a city location.
