PB Structural Design was appointed to prepare a structural scheme for a rear single storey extension across the full width of the rear elevation. The client wanted to create a larger, more spacious kitchen/dining area to accommodate family life.
The Design Process
Almost the entire length of the back wall at ground floor had to be removed between the existing house and the proposed extension. PB Structural Design designed a steel frame to support the existing first floor above. Cranked steelwork was designed and detailed to form a vaulted roof to the extension, creating a light and spacious kitchen/dining area.
The Finished Project
The finished extension provides a huge open plan family area with a seamless connection between the existing house and the new extension. The bi fold doors to the extension provide huge amounts of natural light as well as a visual and physical connection to the outdoor garden space.
