The Objectives

We were appointed to provide a structural scheme for an old two bedroomed cottage.  The client wanted to add additional bedroom space to the existing ground floor and also enlarge the existing small kitchen.

The Design Process

PB Structural Design worked with the architect to develop a scheme that would provide additional light and space to the existing cottage whilst retaining all the existing characterful features.  A special timber roof structure was designed to the rear of the extension to enable the installation of large French doors, opening up the extension to the impressive outdoor space.  The client was keen to retain the existing character of the cottage throughout the design.  They wanted to retain the old timber framing and expose the stud work as a feature in the kitchen so we worked with the architect and builder to design support for this wall to achieve this.

The Finished Project

The cottage was renovated and extended to provide a more functional home whilst still retaining all the character of an old cottage.  The new extension has provided stunning views of the garden and provided light and space to the interior.
